Kim & Kourtney Take NY Episode 1 Recap

I have to confess, though I promised myself I wouldn’t cave in and do it, I found myself turned into the E! network on Sunday around 10pm, watching Kim and Kourtney take New York! Yeah, yeah – I know! But I just couldn’t help it!

I’m not a Kardashian fan by any stretch of the imagination – but I admit to being strangely drawn to the drama of Kimmy’s 72 day marriage. After having the wedding stuffed down my throat by the media for months…the LEAST I could do was watch the unraveling of her marriage, right?

Within a matter of minutes I thought “Oh hell, no wonder this shit didn’t work…a newlywed couple, the bride’s sister, with her baby daddy and a toddler…WTF was Kim thinking??” I don’t care how big the apartment/hotel suite was, that was just entirely too much. Within months Kris H went from being a bachelor to a new husband sharing his living space with an entire family. I understand it was a temporary deal, but you can’t be 3 hours into a new marriage and have that to deal with.  As Kanye would say “that shits cray!”

It was rumored that Kris would be creatively edited to look like a monster in hopes that Kim would garner sympathy and do some damage control. Well the editor’s did a pretty good job of it! I kept reminding myself – this is scripted and edited, this is scripted and edited. Although I could totally ‘get’ where Kris was coming from at times….they did paint him to be an incredibly immature jackass.

-          Naked yoga man: I’m #TeamKris on that situation. Kim – you are/were a married woman, the very least you could have done was give your husband the heads up that there was a naked dude in the living room. He shouldn’t have had to come home to that random penis slinging around in his apartment. And Kourtney – you were wrong as well. Yes, you live there, it was your apartment too…but out of respect for your sisters new marriage, take that mess elsewhere!

-          I’m ready to go home, NOW!: I’m sure the “Welcome to New York” party scene was edited to the hilt, but I walked away from that one #TeamKim. It’s pretty much known that if you even want to be a friend of a Kardashian, be prepared for the cameras, parties, and endless stream of paparazzi. It’s how they get paid and how they stay relevant. Kris’s cursing and pouting about how he was tired and ready to go home was embarrassing to watch. I felt sorry for Kim. It was a compromise he should have been willing to make without showing his ass in front of her friends. But again, I suspect that the scene was edited like hell, I would love to see what footage was left on the cutting room floor.

-          Mason’s play area: Who’s decision was it to set up a toddler play area right in front of the bedroom of a newlywed couple? Mason may be my fave of all the Kardashian’s – but both Kim and Kourtney were wrong for even allowing that to go down. It was disrespectful. Needless to say: #TeamKris (even though it’s all scripted)

-          I’m going back to Minnesota:  I straddle the fence on Hump’s decision to go back to Minnesota for training. The thought of living separately from my husband doesn’t sit right with me. But they are Hollywood, and it’s more common in the circles they run with. But it seems to be all moot because we know he didn’t stay there permanently – he was back to film the rest of the show. I guess he was contractually obligated. *shrugs*

 

All in all, I was intrigued by the first episode. I know this show will be my guilty pleasure!
