Home for the Holidays: Thanksgiving Menu Planning Ideas
With less than a week left before Thanksgiving, our family holiday plans have changed drastically! Initially, we had plans to go to my family’s home in Jersey for the weekend. But then we thought long and hard about making that 8+ hour road trip with a newborn. That coupled with the doctors advice that it isn’t the best idea to have Ava around so many people during the height of flu season; we will be staying home this year. Of course this means that I’ll be spending all day in the kitchen (*rolls eyes*) but I’m not complaining.
I’m trying to plan our menu, but I’m drawing a blank when it comes to side dishes. We’ll be having fried turkey, though JB and I are still deciding between a whole turkey or just turkey wings. I prefer the wing – less clean up and easier to eat (especially when it comes to leftovers). I’m halfway considering making a pork roast as well. For sides we will have the traditional mac & cheese and collards – I’m going to make a smashed sweet potato dish as well.
As of now – our menu looks like this:
Apps:
Deviled Eggs
Tossed Salad
Meat:
Fried Turkey
Pork Roast with an apple cranberry chutney
SideDishes:
Mac&Cheese
Collards
Smashed Sweet Potatoes
Fried Okra
Lemon & Garlic Green Beans
Dessert:
Peach Apple Cobbler
It’s a lot for one person to cook, I’ll probably get started on Tuesday (with the greens) so stay tuned for pictures and recipes!

Girl I would buy a nice turkey from Popeyes (they sale whole turkeys) and then do a few sides. Make it easy, quick, and drama-free. Shoot, you’re better than me cuz if i’d take the family out to eat Thanksgiving at a restaurant. I did the cooking one year, almost entirely alone, and that was the first and last time thats ever going down.
No dressing?! Carrot souffle?
